American Brown Fomitopsis - Fomitopsis ochracea/
I'm not sure how this was even considered the same species as Red Belted Polypores (Fomitopsis pinicola) in 2015, they aren't even red. I don't think we needed a DNA study to happen to make such a conclusion.

New to me genus. Haven't quite got it to species yet but it's one of two. This one was so small that even when someone pointed it out to me it took a good 5 seconds to see what they were pointing at.

I keep seeing my last name trend this week and I assume it's just a bunch of people talking about how cool I am. Iunno, haven't actually clicked it.

The chocolate milk that broke the camel's back.
I was sitting on this rotten birch log, it was a bit iffy but it seemed to hold my weight.
I went to go grab a drink of chocolate milk and the log snapped on me once I picked it up.
Guess it could hold my weight and not a pound more

Talking about a moss this time, not a questionable outskirt of the city.
Can often be found on roadsides and gravel pits. Very soft. Feels very nice.

Day 2/5 of the Kelley River expedition.
Yesterday wasn't the most productive day, but today made up for it. Basically rare fungi out the wazoo. We found the good lichen pockets today. I guess following around the lichenologists would cause that.

Beefsteak fungus (Fistulina hepatica) looks remarkably similar to raw meat. It’s also edible but can have a sour, slightly acidic taste. Who’s tried it and how’d you prepare it. Personally, happy I tried it but won’t seek it out again.
