Congratulations to Jack Emerson-King for finally cracking the synthesis of this dysprosium bis-amide single molecule magnet after almost a decade! Very proud to be part of the team with MillsGroup, Rodolphe Clérac, Prof. Nicholas F Chilton & Mathieu Rouzières. Never give up!

Really excited to have these papers out, one as co-first author and the other lead by Sophie - fantastic synthetic work as always, and the final papers from her PhD! We study weak equatorial interactions with halobenzenes in Dy SMMs

First day of work at Università di Firenze with Mauro Perfetti. Keen to get back into magnetism after a few months off 😍 * Photo from last week, it’s currently pouring with rain in Florence

Our collaborative work UoM Chemistry  with the Prof. Nicholas F Chilton group on a fluorobenzene-bound six-legged piano stool dysprosium single-molecule magnet led by Sophie is now available as a pre-print on ChemRxiv: DOI:10.26434/chemrxiv-2024-5c2gq. Thanks to all the authors! Dr Gemma Gransbury

Wish I could be voting in the UK election tomorrow but alas I moved there 2 mths after a general election and left 4 mths ago so I had no say. Go vote if you can! Oust the Tories at last!!! Let them know what you think about their treatment of the NHS, COVID and poor people

Wonderful to have this ready to share. Jack’s Dy molecule has two point charge like amide donors and a pendant alkene to make the N-Dy-N more linear, giving a huge barrier to magnetisation reversal and very interesting high temp hysteresis. It was very exciting to measure!

Thanks to the ECMM2024 organisers for a brilliantly run conference and a chance to share our work on Dy-Cp single molecule magnets. Some really great science presented and a lot of fun!

Happy to share another paper from my PhD, and my 1st as corresponding author! We have studied the electronic structure of a bis(dioxolene) ligand in three oxidation states Thanks to Prof Colette Boskovic, Dr Gemma Gransbury, Dr Marcus Giansiracusa, A Starikova & R Gable 🧲🧪🦑 …mistry-europe.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ej…

Not sure how you’re meant to learn without quality face-to-face time with teachers. Unis did what they had to do to survive covid, but the engagement and student experience suffered. Why make that the norm? Very disappointing to see from my Alma Mater
