The trumpet soloist on the beautiful Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack to CHINATOWN is Uan Rasey. Just discovered a short interview where Rasey is interviewed about Fats Navarro. A few interesting tidbits csis.pace.edu/~varden/navarr…

I don’t vibe with most work anniversary stuff but I hit five years at Vinegar Syndrome this week which is the longest I’ve been with any company and has been constantly challenging & rewarding. Looking forward to the next five! Thanks for supporting VS, OCN and Cinématographe!

Pedro Almodóvar has been pronouncing my name as “Kylie” for years. I’ve never corrected him because… it’s Almodóvar… and now Tilda Swinton has locked it in

THE ROOM NEXT DOOR: Major Almodovar. A reckoning with how so much life can be embedded even in death. And such masterful work from Swinton and Moore. I love it.

Fabulous UK drummer Martin France has sadly died at 60 after illness. He was a major virtuoso, an idiosyncratic conceptualist, and a very nice man. I didn't know him well but we played together a bit on gigs with Martin Speake and trio with Conor Chaplin, who took this photo.

Venice jury, high as a kite as is its custom; best actress should have gone to Fernanda Torres for “I’m Still Here,” not Kidman for her meretricious performance in a meretricious garbage fire

Bold. A man of courage. Ron Howard, a man of principle and integrity says: “Vote for whomever” Thank you for standing on business Ron Howard. 🙄🙄 Also, stfu Ron Howard.

The Joker was a film festival darling 5 years ago but what a difference half a decade makes: turned down by the Venice jury, snubbed by TIFF programmers… is he perhaps now a victim of his own success?

I started ⁦Carrie Rickey⁩’s book before I left for Venice, but had to leave it behind. Now I’m back and tearing through it. WOW! This is how you do a biography of a complicated, elusive, and (of course) delightful figure. I don’t want it to end.
