Although ESCADINHAS looked like the first of tagged #Biagรณs #whimbrels to depart, it may have been outpaced by ABU, and is now followed, hot on the heels, by ACUNO. Isn't it great that EVERYBODY can see how this race is run? globalflywaynetwork.org/tracks/speciesโฆ

Congrats to Anna Courtemanche (& mentor Rozy Bathrick) on presenting her research on Lesser Yellowlegs at the UMass Amherst Undergraduate Research Conf. Anna found that different yellowlegs breeding populations segregate during migration--hugely important for their conservation.
Without knowing yesterday was #WorldCurlewDay , had my 1st 'wilsternetter' experience wt expert trapper Johannes Fokkers at Sneekermeer. We colour-ringed no less than 10 birds as part of a new Global Flyway Network study into movements of this typical spring migrant of Fryslรขns interior.

It's still #WorldCurlewDay in parts of the USA/Canada.
Long-billed #Curlew is still categorised as 'Least Concern' by BirdLife Data Zone but those who study the species think that that will change.
