I’ve been here twice in August and it’s quite good, but not as good as local favourites Il Pagliaccio Restaurant on Wandsworth Bridge Road and Pappa Ciccia on Munster Road.

For issues facing the world in the second quarter of the 21st century, I would say that demography outweighs both climate and migration. It will have a huge negative impact on almost every country. And it should be getting much more attention. spectator.co.uk/article/the-gl…

It’s a privilege to be invited every year to the Aspen Institute’s Global Economics conference, usually as a speaker. The Bauhaus campus here is one of the most beautiful anywhere. And a great chance to hear from across the world views about the world economy and challenges.

In the Kentucky Bar, Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. They call themselves “world famous” and they could well be - here the Margarita was invented in 1944 and Marilyn Monroe got divorced here from Arthur Miller. And it’s called Kentucky from distilling Bourbon during US’s Prohibition.

It just isn’t true that the UK’s relationship with Germany (or other EU countries) was “broken”. I and others made sure of that. And @rishisunak had excellent relations with Scholz (both were G7 Finance Ministers before getting the top job), von der Leyen and Macron.

What is up with @United? On UA930 from San Fran to London, they decided to have the usual dinner leaving SFO and breakfast an hour out of London - but also an extra, 3rd meal, a midnight snack over Baffin Island?! Waking up the whole cabin, babies crying etc. Seemed senseless.

Strong demand doesn’t necessarily mean safe haven in the bond markets. Strong demand can happen for many reasons - eg if the price is made cheap enough; if there’s a lack of attractive alternatives; or investors need to buy for other factors (eg regulatory reasons).

Whatever you think of the merits of the Government’s Lords policy, it seems odd to me that the same (actually personally very talented) Minister Nick Thomas-Symonds is the same one who is in charge of reforming the UK’s future relationship with the EU. A lot on his plate…

We have down the same (for all but arms) in the U.K. Global Tariff since 2020 and previously in the EU. But tariffs are rarely the barrier to LDCs exporting. The U.K. helps a great deal with building capacity and know-how, etc, which is actually more helpful.

In India, having a great adventure travelling with my 18 year old daughter. I’ve been here a few times before, on Trade and also travelling. No better introduction than wandering the streets of Paharganj in Delhi. Noise and bustle - but an unbeatable first impression!
