We are delighted to see spring and summer invertebrates emerge after a long, wet winter. To attract butterflies, moths, bees and other invertebrates into your garden, plant nectar-rich borders for them to feed along and climbing ivy and shrubs for overwintering insects ๐ŸŒฑ ๐Ÿฆ‹

Our Isle of Wight Reserves team and volunteers have been busy hedgelaying. Hedgelaying creates a natural stock-proof boundary and prolongs the life of the hedge. When the hedge regenerates it creates dense bushy structures which are great for birds and small mammals ๐Ÿ’š

Lapwings displaying at our nature reserves. Males put on dramatic aerial displays, tumbling through the air, accompanied by their piercing 'peewit' call, which gives them their other, common name: peewit.

Notice: Farlington Marshes severe weather โ—

Recent severe weather conditions and exceptionally high tides have caused considerable flooding on site and made the permissive trackway impassable. We strongly advise against visiting until conditions improve.

This little gull was captured at Testwood Lakes Nature Reserve by Assistant Reserves Officer, Simon King. The little gull is a small, dainty gull. In summer, adults have black heads, while young birds have a black mark on each wing forming a 'W' pattern.

With already record high water levels across the marshes the high tides and severe weather warning is a real worry. People can avoid the area but wildlife often canโ€™t. We are not climate resilient on the south coast.

It's not just the change in leaf colour that heralds the first signs of spring, our woodland flowers do too. Check out the array of woodland flora in Eaglehead and Bloodstone Copse at the moment ๐ŸŒผ ๐ŸŒฑ
