Writers, it has come to my attention that this is not general knowledge: YOU CAN DEDUCT YOUR AGENT'S COMMISSIONS/FEES FROM YOUR TAXES.

Cat thought laptop power cable was a snake TWICE tonight. I'm so sliced up right now I look like I've been in a knife fight with Puss in Boots.

Ya'll know I'm a southern girl, right? Grew up playing in barns with that new hay smell. So, I'm tipping my cowgirl hat to 's newest member, inspirational romance writer Tabitha Bouldin, whose wonderful, authentic story THE BARREL RACER'S HOPE took me to my roots.

For transparency, I've seen a bunch of querying authors asking about agents deals, and many don't have access to Publisher's Marketplace, so I've made an attempt to put all mine up on my personal web site. If you're curious, this is me: Deals aliherringwrites.wordpress.com/deals/

This is my daily YELL at publishing houses to hire editors new coworkers and assistants because NOTHING WILL GET DONE unless they have time to do THE WORK THEY ALREADY HAD ON THEIR DESKS A YEAR AGO

Real talk: Most midlist authors are struggling now. If you want a fresh supply of stories, please find a way to support the authors you love. Buy their books in any form from any place, support indie bookstores, RT sale links, write reviews, start a book club. It all helps!

Word of mouth is everything, really. If you read a book and like it, best thing you can do is tell someone else about it. Reviews help, but also, just... tell your friends and family. Tell strangers. Yell book recommendations at a possum. Let the world know!

I’m going to, again, harp on the power of ordering from an indie bookstores. So, if 100 people order a book from Amazon, Amazon gives exactly zero fucks. If 100 indies get one order for a book, at least 200 booksellers are now aware that a book exists.
