I love my job and the place I work at dearly. Everyone there — including management — benefit from our workplace being unionized.

And careful trying to helicopter down to the grass roots, guy. This is a no-fly zone.

I’m never going to apologize for my affiliation with WV Can't Wait. They were the *only* organization last year who supported my campaign despite the fact that I was running as a minor party candidate against an incumbent Dem — the only ones who cared more about values than party.

Everyone claims to be nonpartisan, but when it came down to it all of the advocacy groups and unions cared more about the letter beside a candidate’s name than the values that candidate stood for. Only WVCW can claim to be truly nonpartisan.

I had leaders in local unions tell me that they thought I had the best answers to their endorsement questionnaires, but that they took orders from the state affiliate. The AFL-CIO shared a booth with the Wetzel County Democrats at the county fair. “Nonpartisan” my ass.

WVCW didn’t give a damn, though. They knew they’d catch hell for endorsing me. And, boy, did they! But they never backed off. I’m eternally grateful to WVCW. I expect even more Mountain Party candidates to get their support in the future. Because again — values > party for them.

The message was clear — take money from corporate sources, and your endorsement would be revoked. But WVCW also believes in accountability. Not the social media form of accountability where you isolate and shame people, but real accountability.

Again, I disagree with WVCW on some things. Some important things. But I don’t know of any other organization which is so genuine in their pursuit of a better future for WV.

This is the single biggest problem with liberals and political organizing: The work doesn’t start and stop with elections.

WVCW does so much work for people across this state. And yet, here’s a dude who’s spent little to no time on the ground here talking about win rates.

UPDATE: Amid outcry over City of Charleston disappearing 16 people the day before Regatta for being in a park after curfew, the city is doubling down on its policing of unsheltered people.

It means in addition to sending cops to this park 2-3 times a day to write citations/arrest people, Charleston Police Dept is sending DETECTIVES to do recon — chatting with and filming folks.

Louie, an unsheltered artist, told cops today he’s asked the city for a safe place to camp.

He said he’s asked Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin for a safe, alternative place they could go but hasn’t gotten any response.

Similarly, the city has ignored several requests for comment on the park raids (where CPD jailed 16 people for five days for being in park after hours).

Medicaid unwinding continues in WV and almost no one is talking about it. 43% of renewals have been kicked off of Medicaid in the state representing tens of thousands of West Virginians, double the population of Morgantown 87% of which were disenrolled for procedural reasons.

NOW: Hearing reports that 23 unsheltered people have been arrested in Charleston, WV over the last 24 hours as a run up for Regatta.

This tracks with last year’s increase in citations given to unsheltered people between the announcement of the event and the days it took place.🧵

Tactics used by Charleston Police Dept last year included charging unhoused people with trespassing and littering violations (easy to be “littering” when your stuff is on the ground).
