I’ve had the privilege of working with Jess Phillips in Parliament nearly every day in the last 9 years. She is one of my greatest friends + despite the fact that she is so incredibly down to earth, I will never stop being in absolute awe of the person and the politician she is.

Thinking of the West Yorkshire Police officers who had to deal with the violence in Leeds last night. The rules are simple. Treat other people, property and the police with respect. Good to see all agencies working together to deliver consequences for those who don’t get it.

This is by no means the full set but it was a privilege to invite all those who have worked for me during my time as an MP to a ‘Thank you’ gathering last night. An MP is nothing without the small gang of people working with them and I’m so grateful to each and everyone of them x

I never used the block function whilst I was an MP, but I’m going to enjoy getting plenty of use out of it now!

Every few minutes in Southport today I’ve seen members of the local community coming out to give police officers sandwiches, drinks and sweets. Even buckets of water for the police horses. Clear the community here welcome their presence and appreciate their work.

It is reprehensible that 49 @merseypolice and 4 Lancashire Police officers, as well as 3 Mersey Police Dogs, suffered injuries after coming under attack last night. Their bravery, dedication, and commitment to put the safety of our communities before their own cannot be overstated. These

There are a lot of fascists on our streets making lots of noise. They are massively outnumbered by the selfless, kind and compassionate, the people who know we have more in common than that which divides us. The people who know our human rights are universal. Us. All of us.

To all the police officers who have had rest days cancelled this weekend, who have stood sweltering in so much kit in this heat, to be the thin blue line between vile racist thugs and the communities who have more in common, a massive, massive thank you.

Our police officers are working around the clock to keep us safe, and remain on high alert. This morning, Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited the Metropolitan Police Special Operations Room to thank them.

After 14 years, the Labour Government has work to do on every front. But having spent time with police officers on the front line, I found it so galling that criminals know they are poorly paid and goad officers with it whilst they’re trying to do their jobs. It needs sorting.
