Going into the timeout, Doncic goes to Williams to discuss the non-call at 6:42. Here is a great example of professional communication between players and referees.

A lot has to with toughness and mentality It’s important to still communicate and working on initiating contact and playing through it .Start with just having a defender/coach lean on them for layups from the wings and then more elaborate with it

Great questions so far. If you are a Player/Coach/or Parent send me your questions on Player Development/NBa/Or Film Breakdowns.

Jason, from there I would try to get on the floor with them 3 times a week and continue to tweak the routine. I would incorporate film as needed. If it is a client that is far away, obviously I’d prioritize film and try to schedule on court when I could to check in.

Jason, I think breaking down a Min. of 3 games of the player to get an idea of what they do well, where they operate from, & their deficiencies. From there I start to gather a workout routine on court and what to prioritize. From there I would send them clips for development.

Norman for young guards stay away from back downs and taking 6-7 dribbles to back their defender down. I think the face up jumper and the counter going stepback baseline is a great beginner post package for them.

For a guard that age I would work on a turn around jump shot over their middle shoulder. Work on protecting the ball and keeping it in front. For a counter open up to the middle and then take one dribble baseline for a stepback jumper. Master that on both blocks. GREAT QUESTION!

The Q&A has been great so far. I have time for a few more questions. About 15 more minutes. If you have any questions on Player Development or The NBA send them to me now.

Mike, I saw a little of that. I think getting him in DHO W/ Chet will get him going. Get him going towards the rim w/ Chet as a lob threat as well as being able to hit shooters spaced. It’s just tough with his inconsistent shooting and other off players to have him spaced

That’s a good question. I think you can start as young as 5-6 for ball handling and shooting fundamentals. I think the biggest concern is shooting on a 10 foot hoop at that age. Start them at a lower rim to maximize shooting mechanics instead of heaving up at a 10 ft basket.

Biggest problems that players at all levels have is splitting their feet off the dribble and traveling. I spend more time on the corrections rather than designing drills. I focus mainly on technique and players anchoring the back foot until they put the ball on the floor

Matt hope you are doing well brother. For me, I think that just simple spin puts on a 1-2 concentrating on quick release once that last foot plants as well as balance. Add the 1 drib strong/weak and 2 drib strong weak. Really want them to go straight up/down on shot no twist.

The Tates Locke Box drills are my favorite tool to develop a player’s footwork and ability to operate on the perimeter/mid post. Here is the link again

Fennis, I start them out on spin outs catch and shoot off a 1-2 step catch/shoot from mid range move them out and then 1 dribble right then left pull up. Once they can do that with good technique and no travels I like the Tates Locke Box Drills.
