Since 2019, I’ve been investigating a monitoring tool called Social Sentinel. They bill it as a way to help save students’ lives.

Limits to platforms’ nudging to keep users engaged & their collection of personal data is overdue. Question is whether protections for children can pave the way for a wider overhaul for the benefit of all users, just when the federal effort to regulate data protection is stalling

This is such important research. EYE ROLL to TikTok claiming that even though they DO update the code in in-app browsers they claim to not use it for that purpose.

Whether they use it for tracking or not, can it be disabled for users under 18?

#Spyware is dangerous:
▶️ Control mechanisms failed to prevent its misuse even in 🇪🇺
▶️ Victims of hacking are left alone
▶️ Governments are blocking scrutiny

Until these problems are fixed, there's only one way to go:
We need a #moratorium on the sale&use of spyware!
