Patrick asked Martin Casado about model defensibility, and he said it's difficult because distillation is so effective. Zuck today: "the fact that the 405B model is open will make it the best choice for fine-tuning and distilling smaller models"

Love the idea from martin_casado that the world fundamentally changes when the marginal cost of something goes to 0 - Microchip = compute has 0 marginal cost - Internet = distribution has 0 marginal cost AI = content creation + natural language reasoning has 0 marginal cost

An “Invest like the Best” series without interviewing sarah guo // conviction would make no sense because she is incredible at what she does and I’m constantly inspired by her hunger and hustle as an investor

It's easy to take people for granted when their output is consistently excellent for a long time, but worth calling out: Patrick OShaughnessy has been on a long heater. I can't remember the last time I didn't get at least one valuable thing from an Invest Like the Best conversation.

I have heard this from others as well, but given how plugged in to AI scene sarah guo // conviction is: "I think the large labs were quite surprised by the success of open source over the last year"

Most air-time ever for me in a sell-side email. 🤞that I make it into Ashton’s post Labor Day email. But in all seriousness I thought this was a good summary of my most recent podcast with Patrick OShaughnessy which was super fun.

Biggest episode of the year. Thanks everyone for listening and to Gavin for bringing the energy on a Sunday recording! Fun fact, while it may seem like Gavin was at his computer prepared with notes, he was just casually on his iPhone, everything from memory.

If you are trying to understand how AI may impact “your business” and “your brand,” I highly recommend you listen to this grounded discussion from Bret Taylor (Sierra). Bret eloquently separates near term opportunity from the all too common rhetoric. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/inv…
