After months of waiting I can finally share the news! For the upcoming issue 118 of Selvedge Magazine I have got the opportunity to be pictured by Renee Frinking and Kate Cavendish for the work I do at Kunstmuseum Den Haag as Fashion and Textile conservator. Check it out their website!

A beadwork delight from the archive! This beadwork panel was likely made to commemorate a betrothal or marriage. The composition comprises a well-dressed couple centrally positioned in a garden landscape of exotic fauna and flora, he with a doffed hat and she proffering a flower

The silk designs of James Leman. A little bit psychedelic, a little bit graphicsy, and in such fresh colours they might date from the 1930s or 60s. In fact they are the world's oldest surviving set of silk designs, found in his Album c.1705-10, created when he was aged 17-22.

RIP Faith Ringgold (1930-2024), who leaves an incredible legacy after a life dedicated to art &activism. In story quilts such as the French Collection, she used textile art to intervene in narratives of art history & modernism, rewriting the canon to centre the Black female gaze

In this early 18th-century picture a shepherding pair are joined by a variety of animals. The shepherdess' hand is licked by a cow, and she’s accompanied by a lamb of French knots. A bird and dog spar in the foreground while a peacock, monkey, owl, and birds perch on trees

This quilt from 1922 is an interpretation of the 'Crazy quilt' pattern. Rather than displaying extravagant embroidery that was typical of nineteenth century Crazy quilts, this artwork is a subdued study in monochromatic shades of black and dark colors.

In this wonderful 17th-century picture, a woman playing a lute, likely representing Harmony, sits under a flowering arch. She is surrounded by three large floral slips, a dog chasing a hare, a bird on a fruiting tree, smaller flowers and insects, and a grand castle

Also known as ‘The Little Gidding Cabinet’, this needlework casket was probably the work of one of the Miss Colletts, nieces of Nicholas Ferrar who founded the Little Gidding community in Huntingdonshire in 1626. (Royal Collection Trust, HM CIII)
