I will never tire of looking at soil moisture graphs. Always fascinating. Durum is holding on strong and digging deep. For those interested, this was seeded April 15th and has had about 6" of rain on it since.

I really enjoyed the opportunity to have a conversation with Dr. Kitchen on-farm. We discussed environmental policy, the need for continued investment in plant breeding and research, capital gains, and much more.

For the first time in the history of our country we are heading towards a total shutdown of both Class 1 railways. Canadian farmers rely on rail for their livelihoods. Canada’s reputation is a reliable and on time supplier of food globally is on the line. stopthestrike.ca

It's hard to imagine a more catastrophic threat to the Canadian economy than a strike by both major railways at the same time. And to have it occur at harvest... It's unthinkable. But here we are. Go to stopthestrike.ca to write to your MP about this impending

Shaun Haney (@shaunhaney) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The PBO estimates that the capital gains changes will cost Canadians 17.4 billion over five years. That's 3.48 billion a year. Our railways haul one billion of cargo a day. After a four day strike we will have a year of capital gains covered. This is a catastrophic situation

Jake Leguee (@jakeleguee) 's Twitter Profile Photo

It's unthinkable that this strike is going to actually happen. This can still be avoided. The federal government has the powers to stop it. This doesn't just hurt farmers - it hurts every Canadian.

"There would not be the country of Canada without a national railway service. This was true when the last spike was pounded November 7th, 1885 and its true on August 22, 2024." Strongly worded and accurate article by Shaun Haney on the rail strike that began this morning.

You can read our Sask Wheat press release on this catastrophic rail stoppage in the link. It's stunning that this situation has actually happened. The federal government needs to step in and enact binding arbitration. Every day lost costs farmers - and all Canadians - dearly.

Thank you to the federal government for ending the rail stoppage by invoking binding arbitration. The catastrophic consequences of this shutdown made this action necessary. Kudos to Steven MacKinnon and the Liberal Party for getting this done. realagriculture.com/2024/08/labour…

Grain farmers and agriculture groups have been pushing for binding arbitration to restore railways. We welcome Minister Steven MacKinnon's directive to the CIRB. However, we urge all parties to cooperate with the CIRB and swiftly resume railway service. shorturl.at/97OSU

"Despite several years talking about supply chains, politicians and voters still don’t understand how the economy works." Shaun Haney has an excellent article here outlining the questions and challenges for Canadian rail movement going forward. realagriculture.com/2024/08/takeaw…
