This is trope politics designed to shut down and undermine opposition or questioning.

I’ve just had to refollow my good friend Simon Miln. I never unfollowed him. This platform isn’t playing with a straight bat. Far too much algorithmic suppression and jiggery-pokery of various accounts. It’s not a level playing field.
