It CAN’T be as bad as I am hearing can it? Not calling anyone a liar, but how does this happen? It’s crazy.

Coaches:

Is that high school player with anger issues uncontrollable?

Or, have they not been given the tools to handle strong emotions?

Many adults don't even know how to handle strong emotions.

Give your high school players the tools, then remind them about the tools daily.

7v7 culture is bad. Why? HS coaches can’t coach their kids in 7v7 so random dudes take the kids. Not coaches (usually) just dudes that want to call plays & get some glory. Not all guys, but too many. The ugly carries over to HS games & is killing the sport. AAU as well.

For the longest time, people have asked why I wasn’t a HS head coach, or if I wanted to be one, etc. I turned down a couple of opportunities & always had a hard time explaining why. Chip Kelley nailed it on the head. I am starting to get the itch a little bit, but I’m cool…

Coach Riley III That is not as bad as coaches who do not even help with the recruiting process as all! Wonder why so many kids get bad advice, taken advantage of or with no opportunities!

With Twitter (X) being such a big avenue for college coaches to find and reach high school players & prospects, it blows my mind that high school coaches do not take time to teach their players how to use the platform for recruiting.

Class of 24 and 25, please make sure your DM's are open. If your DM's aren't open, it is very hard to contact you. So, if you're interested in being recruited, please make sure your DM's are open.

The most important time to connect with your players is right after practice.

Find 2-3 different guys every day to connect with. Highlight something positive you saw then do. Give them feedback. Check in with them about school, family, life.
