Okay Twitter, I need your help. The AIA is looking to develop new mentoring and career building opportunities for grad students and early career scholars at the Annual Meeting and we want to hear from you. What kind of offerings would you be interested in? 1/2

So you want to teach with pigments, dyes and lakes in your class but haven’t (yet). A short thread on things I hear from academics who say they want to incorporate more experiential work in their classes but haven’t (yet), with the hope that you might reconsider.

Another reminder if you're free and want to hear me speak about intersectional characters in Latin text. It's going to be a fun one! ✨

How soothing are these color palettes made by students in my Ancient Color class? All [known to be] ancient pigments and lakes, mixed in egg yolk or gum arabic. So much one can do with ochres, carbon black, green earth, chalk, madder lake, and yes, all the BLUES!

Trying to find a picture of a Roman sarcophagus with a hole in the lid for offerings for a class. I know I had at least one good one on my computer but can't remember in which museum I saw it(I thought the Glyptotek) so I can't find it anywhere. Does anybody maybe have one?

Today, we address a historic injustice by returning the Benin Bronzes, magnificent examples of Benin's culture and history. Through this repatriation, we acknowledge a legacy of cultural theft and do our part to return African culture to Africans.

Shown here: bronze plaque.
