My lab received the Nancy Chang, PhD research excellence award in 2023. The grant allowed Dr Yifan Wu to evaluate the role of platelet derived Dkk-1 in SARS-CoV2 immune deregulation. More time in the lab for the BCM_TropMed DTM learners. Plating their samples + performing gram stains + benchtop biochemical tests to identify 10 unknown bacteria of global significance. Goal: to develop basic clinical lab skills that are globally transferable (+some fun)

Today starts the BCM_TropMed 1-week, hands-on laboratory course run by DrKathrynJonesDVMPhD , Theresa Sepulveda and Dr Cameron Brown! Our students are given clinical samples (fixed) and learn to diagnose different pathogens using limited resources. ASTMH ASTMH Clinical Group
