Agriculture faces the biggest challenge of a generation in demonstrating the positive impact farming can have on the environment.

This is amplified by a lack of accurate, on-farm-level data which is why I’m proud to announce that AHDB is investing £2.5m in a pioneering pilot

A 170g 🥑 needs c.320 litres of water -320! - in some of the driest, most drought afflicted areas on earth.

While we focus almost exclusively on ‘carbon’, food sustainability is so much wider.

(We import some 25 million tonnes of water in 🥑 per year…)

I don’t know enough to know if this signals a genuine change of policy or is just a soundbite, but it has to make sense to put solar on roofs & brownfield sites before agricultural land from a whole range of perspectives.

When the Prime Minister talks at length about getting the long-term sick to replace migrant labour in the horticultural sector, you do wonder what advice he’s being given.
