I got involved in politics because I think what people want from their politicians is fairly straightforward.

Authenticity. Decency. Integrity.

I’ve always put causes above myself, and you first in everything. I think that’s what matters. I hope you do too.

Predictable reaction to the National Service policy from the usual quarters.

Anything that unites communities with a sense of service and awareness of what the other organisations do is great. And it gives pride and purpose and challenge to those that often feel most left behind

Banged out for a quick run. Campaigns from scratch are stressful in the first few days - particularly if you’re the No.1 target opponent for the opposition in the south west.

But I love the fight. I’ve a good record and I’m in it for you.

It is always an immense honour to speak to the best and bravest that our country has to offer.

This morning, I sat down with veterans in Yorkshire to discuss what serving our country means to them.

Day 3… the first part of a campaign is fast and furious as we try and meet deadlines all within stringent rules.. so long nights and bleary eyes on the doors. But you always cheer me up so much. ❤️

We’re out and about in Plymouth. Now and every day until the election, speaking to as many wonderful people as we can about why I need you to go and vote for me on 4th July.

This one will be tough. If you want me to carry on - I need you.

The wife will cheer up eventually. 🫣

A general election has been called.

It’s time to choose. Onwards, with authentic political leadership in Plymouth. Or a Labour candidate who has arrived in Plymouth simply to promote a principle-free Labour Party.

Yesterday, Rt Hon Johnny Mercer and Mrs Murty met with women veterans involved in D-Day to mark the upcoming 80th anniversary.

The women undertook roles including codebreaking, plotting convoy movements and passing on coded messages to troops landing on the beaches.

Their stories are incredible, but like me they worry that we will eventually forget.

This was really special today.

We held a ceremony to mark the start of the D-Day 80 Commemorations in the shadow of the memorial on the Hoe. Privileged to have William Johnston there; he landed at 0730, 6 June 1944 on Gold Beach. As the years pass, their courage is undimmed.

I said I would look into this case presented by PoliticsJOE on Monday - I have done all week.

I have been unable to validate this man’s service. Nonetheless we are working with his council to help him; but I have no evidence he is a veteran.
