Europe doing better than the US on employments gets lost in the debate over US outperformance on growth. US productivity always goes up in recessions as excess workforce is shed, but what is the social impact and does it affect long-term productivity or not?

So the extremely privileged EU institutional staff are getting an almost 20% increase of their salaries, which were already incredibly high and which they pay a ridiculously low level of taxes on.

And you wonder why people talk about a Brussels gravy train.

I will never understand why some people behave like you owe them your time and attention, honestly.

Basic manners, people. You were supposed to learn them as a child.

Sorbonne 2 - What did Macron say and mean?

French President Emmanuel Macron covered everything from European sovereignty to Geopolitical competition with the US and China.

But what did he actually say? and what can we expect this to lead to?

No matter what you think about him, nobody can say that Emmanuel Macron doesn't understand the global geopolitical arena.

Europe cannot rely on the United States no matter who is there, and we need to finally step up to the plate and fight for our own interests.

In news that will surprise no one, Anglosphere interest in German politics declines in relation to the AfD's declining poll numbers.

The real story has for months been the revival of CDU fortunes despite Merz's less than stellar leadership, but that doesn't get the clicks.

If the 2027 French Presidential elections took place today, Marine Le Pen would win no matter the scenario

This is categorically due to the complete lack of a talent programme within Renaissance, the messy succession circus, and several bad decisions

Actually, Merkel's policies towards Viktor Orban and Fidesz were entirely to ensure the political survival of the EPP / influence of the CDU/CSU.

For Russia, it was to ensure cheap energy to make sure she and her party could praise themselves for keep cost of living down while…

So you mean the French had to act to difuse Thatcher's ridiculously out-of-pocket nuclear warmongering?

And people say the French are the unhinged ones?

I do wonder if we could argue that Angela Merkel has been going through a prolonged fall from grace after she left her post, and we saw the true cost of her policies vis-a-vis Russia, support for Viktor Orban, denial of EU Strategic Autonomy, etc.

Are they though? Because there are hundreds/thousands of highly skilled people who would happily work for the institutions, myself included.

And fyi, I know several people working within the institutions, and they are categorically outclassed by those who don’t.

very odd, they’re behaving in a manner that suggests they don’t want to succeed, and would prefer the company go to zero. unthinkable choices from a business perspective. almost as if bytedance isn’t being run by the CEO. but that would be crazy.

I say this as someone who is proudly feminist, someone who rose to national prominence on feminist issues.

But the silence from people I considered close allies in women's rights on the October 7th rapes has fundamentally shaken my appraisal of the movement and our integrity.

The German Greens betrayed the German people when it comes to nuclear energy, and they should be punished for this.

'Un double frontière, française et européenne' : donc remise en place de douanes aux frontières ? de contrôle de camions ? de trains ? de voitures ? Ça veut dire quoi, concrètement ?

If you guys want to see the absolute nonsense conspiracy theories that French liberals have to deal with:

This is why people think Emmanuel Macron is pro-EU.

He's also clearly done nothing to reform France at all, no sir.
