With the honourable exception of Robert Buckland, there's been next-to-no resistance from Tory moderates. Without that in place, it's hard for Lords to carry on alone. Byt the blame for that lies with the cowardice of One Nation Tories, not the Lords. They've fought valiantly.

The Lords is consistently attacked by left and right. On weeks like this, you realise how utterly essential they are. The Commons is powerless against the government. The Lords are not.
