The mixed ownership model for the big electricity generators introduced by National has failed. It’s resulted in profit-maximization at the expense of new generation and lower power prices. Returning to fossil fuels won’t fix that problem.

The current govt say climate change is an existential crisis for humanity at the same press conference they announce new fossil fuel electricity plans 🤦‍♂️ We have enough renewable energy in NZ, the market has prioritised profits rather than supply

According to Christopher Luxon, a Minister calling a judge a “communist” is “descriptive” and doesn’t breach Cabinet requirements that Ministers don’t criticize the judiciary. The standard he sets for his Ministers is so low you’d need a sickle to find it.

Christopher Luxon is quite comfortable with his Minister saying nicotine is as harmful as caffeine. And this is the Minister tasked with reducing smoking 🤦‍♂️ 🚬

The National government cut $2billion of school building projects to pay for tax cuts. Now they are spending millions on new Beehive offices for 3 ministers. As usual, they have a good-plated standard for themselves and offer crumbs for everyone else.

Acting Prime Minister Winston Peters today rejected the scientific evidence around climate change saying nobody agrees with NIWA data on the subject. His chasing of the conspiracy theorist vote is undermining his role as our chief diplomat and making NZ look like climate deniers

Finance Minister Nicola Willis used a patsy question in parliament today to complain that the pay rises teachers, nurses, doctors, police, firefighters and other public sector workers got under Labour were too high. No wonder those workers are heading off to Australia!

Today at Question Time the Minister for Workplace Relations & Safety refused to guarantee that NZders would continue to have the right to challenge their employment status in the Courts. This Government is taking NZ backwards.

It took the Labour government 3-4 years to get the building sector going. It’s taken National less than 1 year to bring it back down.

Shane Jones now says his own comments criticizing a judge were “treacherous territory” yet just last week the Prime Minister said he had no issue with them. Amazing to see a Minister back down yet the guy whose job it is to actually enforce ministerial standards does nothing.

Ghost charts. None of the “facts” mentioned at the July press conference have been substantiated, and some are untrue. And yet $1.4b of health cuts are going ahead.

By the end of today 44 of 46 councils will have retained/reaffirmed their Māori wards. A clear signal that local government values what Māori wards bring to decision making.
