This spruce front, ivory back lute was made by Magno Dieffopruchar in about 1550. Music played a central role in the pertormance of love at King Henry VIII’s court and this lute is part of the ‘Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens’ exhibition currently at the National Portrait Gallery.
