Trigpoints played a vital role in helping Ordnance Survey accurately map the country in the 1930s but are now historic features. Thanks to Rob and Mary Starkey, this one at Gummers How will be around for a few more years yet. #LakeDistrict
Finally......If you are heading out on the water remember to take a means of communicationš¤³
If you are in trouble, or see somebody else in trouble, on or in the water call 9ā£9ā£9ā£ & provide as much information as possible! #WaterSafety
Remember to check the weather forecast before heading out onto the waterš§
The weather can deteriorate rapidly which can turn an enjoyable day into a very serious one.
Even moderate winds can make conditions difficult & dangerous, depending on experience levelšŖļø

Heading out on the water over the weekend?
Do you have personal flotation? This will minimise the risks associated with Cold Water Shock, which is a real danger at this time of year. Buoyancy Aids are ideal for activities such as paddleboarding, canoeing & kayaking. #WaterSafety
Itās Good Friday which means itās Bank Holiday weekend!š

Before and after access improvements at the wonderful Blea Tarn. Our Rangers installed new gates on traditional stone stoops with some hard landscaping to help manage surface water. Thanks to our local National Trust team who donated the stoops.Lake District Lake District Foundation
Another great day yesterday working with students from Kirkbie Kendal School. This time we had a small, though very hard working group from Year 11, who spent the day removing deer fencing around an area of coppice in Border Moss, Rusland.
Thanks very much to the group of Year 10 students from Kirkbie Kendal School who helped clear Himalayan Balsam in Haverthwaite Heights today.
You did a great job and got a lot cleared!
