Thank Fred MacAlpin (and Jim Farris) for the brilliance of the MGM cartoon sound design. MacAlpin started when Harman-Ising moved to MGM and he stayed thru the entirety of the department’s life. Both men almost never received credits for any of their work and it’s a damn shame.

Have you noticed that free work has been normalized in every profession? Chefs do tastings. Actors audition. Programmers do coding tests. Writers do edit tests. Teachers make lesson plans. Athletes try out.

This business has always been infinitely harder for Black, Brown, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+ and disabled writers and actors. So excuse the hell out of us if we do not want our Unions just accepting any deal to appease some of y’all. Some of us literally can’t afford to go back.
