From Timothy Snyder’s On Tyranny. Something I’ve been hammering home with my Social Problems course this semester: Not all institutions are good. All are imperfect. But institutions themselves are miracles & despotism emerges from their ashes. So improve the ones you care about.

As we focus our attention on (re)building trust in health care, let's not overlook the critical role of physician's trust in patients. Once upon a a time, it was taken for granted. Not sure that's an option anymore. healthaffairs.org/content/forefr…

CVS is being sued for asking customers to donate to the American Diabetes Association when they check out. Those donations are in fact *not* sent to the ADA, but instead reimburse the CVS for a legally binding obligation of $10M that CVS promised earlier lawstreetmedia.com/news/health/cv…

I don’t know if it’s fraud but it seems to be a salient difference to me. If my money goes “straight” to ADA, then by declining to give I am costing them (a charity). But as CVS has set it up, if I decline to give only CVS (biz) is hurt. Changes the calculus for me.
