Robert Jenrick, who’s standing to be leader of the Conservative Party, wants Muslims to be arrested for saying "God is great" in Arabic in public. That’s what Allahu Akbar means and every Muslim says it every day when they pray.

Here in London - we have zero-tolerance for racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism or any form of hate and we pride ourselves on being open, diverse and welcoming of all faiths and backgrounds. Those who seek to divide our communities will never win.

This isn’t the win many think it is. We still haven’t had the largely overdue discussion about racism and Islamophobia. We saw towns and cities burn over the last week, much of it inflamed by media and politicians. Is this it? We are supposed to go away again and just crack on?

Great to attend the Picnic event with Liza Begum. These gatherings are vital as they provide safe spaces for communities that have felt marginalised or unsafe. It was wonderful to see the police, and Westminster City Council engaging with the community too, and activities for the kids.
