I’m delighted for my brave Romani client who put her head above the parapet and challenged the draconian new enforcement powers inserted into the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 by the Police Crime Sentencing and Courts Act 2022.

📢Yesterday the High Court declared parts of Police Act 2022 do not comply with Human Rights Laws in a landmark ruling! The case was brought by Wendy Smith, a Romani Gypsy woman with extreme bravery taking this case forward with Friends, Families & Travellers CLP Garden Court Chambers.

Today is Romani Resistance Day. On this day, 16th May 1944, Roma and Sinti people in Auschwitz-Birkenau resisted Nazi soldiers, delaying executions in the ‘Gypsy Camp’ for several months. We honour the bravery and strength of all the Roma and Sinti people.
