Growing up with two brothers has prepared me for doing the podcast with Matt and Luke! 😁 Really interesting discussion on revealing twists, or not, and always fascinating when 2 similar but different shows land at the same time.

This starts tonight on Sky Atlantic with all episodes available through NOW It’s a show that doesn’t quite know what it wants to be or say but Kate Winslet is unsurprisingly brilliant.

Got two pieces coming shortly, but I just want to say how exceptional Andrew Scott is in the lead role. Such a tough character to pin down, his entire persona shifts from scene to scene, but Andrew proves yet again here why he’s one of the best actors working today.

Ok so I've already done two hours work and I'm having a big cuppa tea and watching the first episode of on Netflix and I'm here to tell you that it and Andrew Scott are both astonishingly beautiful & strange & deeply unsettling & you should watch it.

Fair comment. To be fair, I'm referring to character voiceover. I couldn't watch Arrested without Ron Howard.

A great example of where voiceover adds to a show. I think it helps it's an older Kevin rather than Fred Savage as Kevin.

The CustardTV Depends, if it's funny/interesting insights then it forms a kind of parasocial relationship with the character, like they're sharing their inner world with you. But if it's just to spout cliches or say something that's already obvious to the viewer, then it's just spoon-feeding

The CustardTV Yeah i've felt like that as well about at least two shows I've previously watched before. The dialogue went on too long and I was left wishing they hadn't included it in the intros.

YOU, Peep Show and The Handmaid's Tale are the only shows that it has worked in for me. That's because hearing inner thoughts shows different sides to the characters but otherwise it's lazy.

Bit of a warning to creators of shows, if your show starts with character voiceover I'm likely to dislike it from the off. How does everyone else feel about this?
