Today is his first day, but he will not take operational control of the jail until Jan. 1, 2023.

Disability Rights Mississippi & Southern Poverty Law Center sued in 2011 over conditions & treatment of children at the center, including denial of mental health treatment
& insufficient educational, rehabilitative and recreational programming.

They settled with the county & entered the consent decree in 2012
