The events at Bondi Junction this afternoon are absolutely devastating. My thoughts and the thoughts of everyone in our community are with the victims and their loved ones. Thank you to our incredible police, first responders and some very brave citizens for their actions.

We’re expanding mental health support for veterans across the country. Open Arms provides veterans focused mental health support through the lived experience of peers like Emma. It’s free for veterans and their families, it’s effective and they’re around the nation.

We’re expanding Defence housing options in South Australia.   They’re close to the Adelaide CBD, central to work and practical for Defence members and their families.   Pleasure to be joined by my friend Steve Georganas MP at yesterday’s opening.

The deeds of the Australian troops in Papua New Guinea are what the Anzac legend is made of. Here at the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway, we remember the men who fought and died, the locals who supported them and the families who mourn them. Lest we forget.

An honour to participate in our communities Anzac Day services today. On Anzac Day we pay our respects to those who have given their life defending our country and our ideals. Lest we forget.

When you see these blue shirts, you know help is on the way. Disaster Relief Australia uses the skill set of its veteran volunteers to help communities affected by natural disasters. And with the release of today’s wellbeing report we know there’s real benefits for veterans.

An honour to visit the Labuan War Cemetery here in Malaysia. Many of the Australian soldiers who rest here were held as POWs during WW2. Their stories are of courage and resilience in the face of hardship and atrocity. And it’s a story that will never be forgotten.

Australian soldiers and the local Malayan population gave their lives here at Surrender Point in defence of freedom and liberty, values we hold dear today. An honour to visit the commemoration site to pay my respects.

We’re investing $115.2 million to secure NIDA’s future and the future of all eight Australian national arts training organisations. These students are the future of our entertainment industry and we’re securing their training now and into the future.
