Today was testing day for Class 61, but some of the did not need to take the test because they already have their certification. Those recruits took part in a community day of service instead! They helped the East Madison Community Center paint classrooms and organize storage.

Starting today, three CARES teams are on duty during hours of peak demand. CARES 3 is on duty from 12:00-10:00 PM weekdays. Dane County Public Safety Comms Center data identified these as the busiest hours for behavioral health emergencies.

Women’s History @ MFD: Laura Laurenzi joined MFD in 1988. She was the first woman to achieve the rank of Assistant Chief, in 2013. She helped shepherd the development of our Community Paramedicine program, which has gone on to make a widespread positive impact in our community.

Women’s History @ MFD: Cheryl Peterson joined MFD in 1990 as the first civilian and first female Code Enforcement Officer. She eventually worked her way up to the position of Lead Worker in 1994. Cheryl retired 2014, after 23 years with the MFD and 29 years serving the City.

Our Fire & EMS Pathway Internship is a brand new initiative funded by the Wisconsin Partnership Program!

This is a two-year program where interns will get on-the-job training and experiential shadowing at MFD, plus education at Madison College.

This week, Ladder 2 assisted Firefighter Schmid with some ladder basket training. Over the years, ladder basket rescues have helped with rescuing injured construction workers and others who've needed to be removed from differing terrain and heights.
