Q3 Some days - or years - everything goes great when your classroom door is closed, but the other grown ups in your building are bringing you down in some way. How do you navigate the teacher/admin waters so you can get back to the friendly waters of your classroom?

A5 It's time for a pause. It's time to talk, it's time to listen to each other and share feelings. It's important to read the vibe, and decide when they're ready to work on something other than the elephant in the room.

A5) The first thing is to talk.
Get the facts out with the kids.

Then tell them whatever they are feeling is normal and offer access to the Counsellors

Q5 The worst days in my career have involved tragedies. Deaths, car accidents, hospitalizations, they're awful, and they're so much for you and your class to process. Can you please talk about how you’ve dealt with a tragedy from the classroom?

A3 No one sees eye to eye with every colleague. I do my best to be pleasant, keep it professional, and keep negative connections to a minimum. When there's something that I feel at odds with, I do what I'm supposed to do, and focus on the important stuff.

A4 When I had my own kids, I prepped them, and it was easy to prep if I needed to go home or to the doctor at short notice. It hasn't happened this year, so I don't know how it'll work if I'm not well as a specials teacher.

Q4 Sometimes everything is going right, except for the fact that you’re sick, or another health issue is knocking you out of commission while you’re at school. How bad does it have to be for you to go to the office and ask for a sub?

A2 I've gotten pretty good in life at being present wherever I am. I'm not always great at it, but it does mean that I am pretty good at hanging my own stuff on a hook when I enter the door.

Q2 I know that as professionals, it’s best when we leave our home stresses out of student teacher interactions. Even so, that doesn’t always work as well as we’d like. How do you keep a rough patch on the personal front from spilling into your work?

A1 Yesterday (hence tonight's topic) was that. There was feeling like I wanted to cry, but not wanting to in the parking lot. Sat in the Target lot before shopping and scrolling TikTok. Then home for dinner & Game of Thrones before retooling my lessons for the week.

Q1 Let’s start off with just a standard day of bad behavior. I’m talking about the day where even though you thought everything was set to work right, boy, did it ever just not! How do you recover best from a day like that?
