An inspiring talk as usual by Michael T. Lawton, MD. He continues to push the boundaries of open vascular surgery and brainstem surgery and it was great having him back UCSF Neurosurgery.

Join us for this course that has proven to be a highlight of our year. Super informative for surgeons, endocrinologists, and other providers interested in pituitary disorders!

Combining abstracts/posters with peer-reviewed pubs is a bad metric because we value the latter far more than the former. Unmatched students had nearly as many of these "research products" as matched students. Better metrics like performance on a rotation are harder to quantify.

Unfortunately the success rate matching when concurrently applying for a second specialty is not great as the second specialty doesn't like being the candidate's backup plan. It's tough on the mentor and applicant but best to identify those unlikely to match ahead of time.

How do "benign" meningiomas grow? And can we tell if they're benign using non-invasive tests? Out today in Cancer Cell, Meeki Lad, MPH from my lab shows that skull bone marrow contributes "hybrid neutrophils" to GBM with antigen-presenting capacity allowing an anti-tumoral response. Intracalvarial AMD3100 releases these cells and prolongs survival! sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
