97% of money was created by commercial banks as loans, mostly to buy existing assets like land. The result is a vicious feedback loop of ever-rising land prices and ever-increasing mortgages, trapping Canadians in lifetimes of crushing debt. Land value tax is a circuit breaker.

It is strange to me how many people argue both 1) Transaction costs generate market failures, making governments necessary 2) We should fund said governments with taxes on production and sales (thereby further ratcheting up transaction costs). Land value tax would solve this. 🔰

I am sad to hear that James C. Scott has passed away. He was one of those scholars who enabled you to see the world with new eyes. I intended to nominate him for the Johan Skytte Prize in Political Science, and know from conversations with its committee chair that he would have been a strong candidate.

A basic error in political philosophy is to describe outcomes, not institutions. Institutions are always intermediate and necessary to outcomes. I can wish cancer and heart attacks away, but doesn't describe a plausible funding structure for research or lowering smoking.

When future historians study how our society tolerated factory farming for so long, they'll wonder at how little the media covered this moral atrocity. Vox is the one publication that treats factory farming as the major news story it is. I'm excited to read this new feature.

Today I was invited to, and participated in, my first ever Quaker meeting. I have long admired the Quakers for their tolerant theological beliefs, egalitarian structue, and emancipatory social work. It was a truly remarkable experience that I will never forget.

I just listened to the premier episode of "Exploring Liberty with Barend", where barendg interviews Gareth Whelan about #geoism. A great interview which I highly recommend! I look very much forward to future episodes! 🔰
