The Pitt women's volleyball team is the best team at our university right now, ranked #8 in the nation and they just beat #2 Louisville yesterday. I love the way the players dance after the game. Joy!

Teaching tip, #historyfrombelow : I’ve had success combining Natalie Zemon Davis *The Return of Martin Guerre* (1982) with the award-winning film of the same name (1982; Davis consulted). Literary/film representations of the life of peasants in 16c France.

Running into an old friend .... At the founding meeting of the Manhattan Anti-Slavery Society in September 1840, the first speaker was Isaac Hopper, who told the 200 assembled people, “mostly of the working classes,” Black and white, all about radical abolitionist Benjamin Lay.
