The Lifetime Capital Gains Exemption for a qualified small business is $913,630 for 2022.

To access it, you need to own shares of your operating company.

If your HoldCo owns 100% of your OpCo, you won't qualify when you sell your business!

Job titles are confusing. How could you tell if an advisor is a good one without knowing what each ones means?

Do they ask you about your existing investments? Do they ask about your family, your goals & dreams? Do they ask you about your existing insurance policies?

One the greatest benefits to posting here and on LinkedIn over the past few months has been meeting dozens of incredible, like-minded financial planners.

So many opportunities to learn, collaborate, and get inspired.

Anyone else get obsessed with a band and listen to them almost exclusively for a long period of time?

When I find new music I love I pretty much don't listen to anything else.

Worried the Gov't is going to get half your RRSP?

Unlikely, and:

1) You got a tax deduction on contributions

2) Investment income isn't taxed in the RRSP

3) You're likely to withdraw over many years

4) Pension tax credit & income splitting lowers your tax bill

Ever thought, 'wow, I'm happy I did that yesterday, so I don't have to deal with that today'?

That's your current self thanking your past self for an action you took previously.

When it comes to saving for your future, give future-you a reason to look back and say 'thanks'.

I’ve been home in Canada for a few days and I’ve spent time with several friends who work in healthcare. The entire Canadian healthcare system is collapsing and there are no clear short term solutions. I have never ever seen things this bad. It is beyond heartbreaking.

The old financial advice model:

- markets & performance
- transactions & trading
- commissions & trailers

The new financial advice model:

- values & experiences
- relationships
- impact & actions
- choice of payment options

Canada is still behind but things are changing.

You’ve probably heard of the 4% rule.

It’s used to determine how much income they can expect from their portfolios in retirement.

But it may not be as helpful as you’ve believed.

People don't care about what you know.

They care about who you are, what you've accomplished, and how you can help them.

Why is it that most people retire around the same age, about 65?

Why is 50 not the typical age, or 80?

It could go without saying that many people dream of retiring or semi-retiring early, so why is it that many people don’t?
