Grow & retain your own canola seed? Here’s the key take home messages from the GRDC North project to improve production of grower retained seed. If you missed the webinar, see link below 👍.

Here’s the results from the intercropping/companion project. Take home message was intercropping increased productivity from a unit of land perspective, but profitability was halved compared to wheat monoculture. See below for results GRDC North NSW DPI Agronomy

Ever wondered why you DONT apply glyphosate (as a harvest aid and/or late weed ctrl) to canola seed-crops? Next years crop establishment will be greatly reduced no matter how big the seed size is. #cantgradeyourselfoutoftrouble GRDC North NSW DPI Agronomy

Tolerances for retaining weather damaged canola seed is extremely small. Any visual symptoms is likely to produce seed with low vigor (& hence poor establishment for next year). Conduct a seed vigor test if you have any doubt. GRDC North NSW DPI Agronomy
