The report found that the “blatant deficiencies of this system shielded soldiers from accountability for state violence and is arguably the reason why not a single state actor was prosecuted between 1969 and 1974”.

The events of January 4th and 5th 1976 are, and will continue to be, among the most secretive and hidden events of the so called “Troubles”. Should the truth of those two atrocities ever be revealed, the history of the conflict would be turned on its head. bbc.com/news/uk-northe…

Looking at the full list of the ‘expert advisory panel’ for the ‘public history’ PR exercise: nine people at various career stages veering to senior. Six men. All either working in history or politics. None currently work in Northern Ireland. Colonial mindset remains intact.

Another collusion inquest.
It is absolutely and utterly outrageous.
It is time for the Minister for Justice to comment on the devastating impact of this treatment of the local courts on families and on confidence in the rule of law.

So, a government that shuts down historical investigations and baulks at a peace and justice process wants to fashion an official account of the Troubles?

What a truly stupid idea. It will have zero credibility from the start.

‘A significant difficulty in establishing an official history of the Troubles will be finding scholars to take part in it’

Given that this is a British government initiative, who has been showing its true colours ad nauseam of late on its approach to truth and justice, this cannot be independent. No historian should have anything to do with it.

We understand virtually all NI-based academics approached, would not be part of this.

When we met with Lord Caine, Anna Bryson asked what the purpose of the official history was: response was that the British Government was entitled to put forward its version of history.

Given the man at the centre is actively trying to stop the truth of the conflict from emerging in courts and through investigations this is quite frankly the gaslighting of our population
