The answer to my question, ‘Why doesn’t everyone yet get it that more renewables doesn’t mean less fossil fuel?’ , is in large part that a cynical fossil fuel industry works hard to stop us seeing this as makes clear the need to separately constrain that fossil fuel.

Sense at long last. How was it ever possible not to take account of the emissions from burning the coal ?!? It took a conspiracy of warped and disingenuous arguments to keep this crazy mine plan going for so long. Thank SLACC and FOE for fighting it. theguardian.com/environment/ar…

Oh dear! This is the second misleading headline from Carbon Brief (who I do respect) recently -and for the same reason. What they are actually reporting is an INCREASE in both coal and electric arc steel making capacity. That is NOT a shift away from coal. It is more of both.

This £100m levy will be a small but worrhwhile step forward. (for perspective Denise Coates alone gets several times more p.a. as CEO of Bet365). Gambling is a good illustration of how useless GDP is as a metric of success. This industry needs to shrink. theguardian.com/society/articl…

Thank you Prospect Magazine and Nick Davies for uncoverring what looks like a lot more crimnal activity in the Murdoch empire while coverring up their phone hacking. Met police launch new inquiry into Murdoch newspapers (prospectmagazine.co.uk)

But the graph here shows the trend in China is rising CO2 with fluctuations; trending up but some Qs down. The important story is that the climate benefits of rising clean energy are being undone by the demand growth it enables. (Rebound). It’s the same globally.

In the end I’m reluctantly persuaded by this. I’m thinking when using X 1) Avoid ‘For You’ 2) Scroll quickly past adds, 3) Don’t pay X any money and 4) treat as information only sources you know from outside X. 5) ignore popularity stats. Sensible rules?

An important principle is that if you can’t trust an MP on climate it tells you that you also can’t trust them on anything at all that you might care about. If an MP denies the climate emergency they are either too dishonest or not smart enough to be in politics.

Another important principle: ignore adverts as best you can unless you trust the screening criteria of the advert platform. If unsure whether adverts have a poisonous influence on all of us, try reading Badvertising by Leo Murray and Andrew Simms. badverts.org/badvertising-b…

I’m proud to be one of 1,176 letter co-signatories calling on MPs to back the #CANBill in this week’s private members’ bill ballot. The time for science-led legislation to tackle the climate-nature crisis is now. Ed Miliband Steve Reed MP zerohour.uk/scientist_lett…
