We've been hearing the distinctive call of this little warbler in #Montgomeryshire for a little while now - have you been lucky enough to see & hear one? 💚

THREE EGGS!
As eggspected, the third is a lot paler than the first two. The ink well was almost dry.

There are 8 wild species of violets in Montgomeryshire, as well as garden varieties. When they flower & where they are growing can help distinguish them; Common Dog-violet is the one you are most likely to see.

The 💚-shaped leaves of Fioled Gyffredin are the foodplant for caterpillars of the #PreciousPBFs . Although it's not a lack of the plant which limits this rare butterfly, it is another great reason to encourage it wherever it grows.

“Common violet” is quite apt for this widespread species, although we prefer the local name ‘Esgidiau a Sanau y Gog’ = ‘shoes and socks of the cuckoo’!
