Afreeca TV stock price up 25% in one day due to the announcement of Twitch’s closure in Korea.

The Korean government certainly doing their part in helping domestic businesses!

When I first lived there, you could get Doritos at the local corner store. Then one day they were suddenly gone. In their place: Dodohan.

With Naver launching their streaming service soon and Afreeca always being a competitor, it was only a matter of time. Twitch got Dodohan-ed.

This probably means that most Korean streamers will move to Afreeca or other Korean platforms. Possibly a chance for YouTube to make big livestreaming moves in Korea.

I just received an email from Twitch that they are shutting down their business in Korea.

The ISPs petitioning the Korean government to charge for web traffic have apparently made it 10x as expensive to operate compared to other countries.

This is awful news for KR creators.
