Sorry, but it can't be both 'an important voice with an important message, read this long Atlantic feature because it tells you what's going on at US universities today' and 'just a poor little student, it's unethical for a professor he publicly criticizes to respond.'

Pick one.

Protests outside SecState Blinken’s house haven’t gotten coverage because he’s not a Republican, so right-wing media isn’t claiming it’s a massive security threat and proof the entire left opposes free speech or whatever. Plus there’s campus protests for their narrative already.

Most important issue in America, which should shape all else, is Biden hasn't done a long sit-down NYTimes interview.
Most important thing about these protesters? They showed message discipline and internet-era media savvy, rather than talk to Peggy Noonan, and are therefore bad.

Nothing tells me quicker that someone is an unserious thinker about foreign policy than when they generally handwave at Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, or anything else going on in the world as 'forever wars' as though all conflict is exactly the same, interchangeable issue.

Small % Americans directly affected by Iraq & Afghanistan wars, and they're over (Biden ended one).
Uninsured rate all-time low in 2023.
$1.2T bipartisan infrastructure bill.
Young people have the right to demand better, yes. But better than reality, not than false doom & gloom.

Uh... I may be in trouble. And so are thousands of students who have taken a class with me.
I apologize for writing about, discussing, and assigning material on this prominent political and national security concern.
But in my students' defense, some of them didn't do the reading

How effective is Russian propaganda?

According to this Levada poll, 50% of Russians blame Ukraine for the Crocus City terrorist attack in Moscow, 37% blame 'Western security services,' and only 11% blame 'radical Islamists,' i.e., ISIS.

Ukraine reportedly kills a concentrated group of Russian troops with recently provided, longer-range rockets (ATACMS), and Russia does nothing it wasn't already.
Because they've been doing whatever they can to Ukraine for 2+ years.
Hand-wringers take note.

So many Americans underestimate authoritarianism. I hope those who do never have to find out what it’s really like living under an authoritarian national government.

With water cannons, stun grenades and tear gas, Georgian police have brutally cracked down on pro-democracy protesters, marking a significant deterioration of civil rights and a pro-Russia pivot in the EU candidate country.

Hamas values power more than Palestinian civilians, and will sacrifice them for a chance to keep it.
Israel values removing Hamas from power more than Palestinian civilians, and will go through them to try to achieve it.
I, too, doubt that a Rafah-invasion-avoiding deal happens.

Right-wing culture warriors' theory that radical leftists control academia and use it ruthlessly force left-wing beliefs on people was always insane. But it looks even crazier with admins—the ones with power—calling in police against left-wing protestors.

“Who do you favor more, Israel or Hamas?” isn’t a good way to measure American opinions regarding the Gaza war.
But it is yet another example how drastically poll numbers on this topic vary based on question wording, and how some emphasize questions that get the answer they want.

Absurd. Protest *is* normal in America.
Trump: BLM, Women’s March—both much bigger than today’s protests—plus against Muslim ban
Obama: Occupy Wall St., Tea Party
Bush: Iraq war
Clinton: WTO (“Battle of Seattle”)
I’m leaving out some.
War somewhere, unfortunately, is normal too.
