The central decoration of the Villa's changing room mosaic is a drinking vessel called a cantharus. The panel would probably have been made by a more skilled mosaicist and inserted once the rest of the floor was complete.

The South Range at Chedworth is a place of mysteries which is why National Trust archaeologist, Martin Papworth, visited the site earlier in the week to carry out a geophysical survey. The results may show archaeological features worthy of further investigation.

Chedworth's famous Roman snails have been out in great numbers this week. They have been sleeping on rocks, hanging out in the pilae room, sliding towards the nymphaeum, and greeting visitors at the entrance to the Villa.

The Changing Room Mosaic at Chedworth is the only floor at Chedworth to have been completely lifted and re-laid on to a modern foundation (1978). As a result the floor is stable and will not collapse into its hypocaust. #Mosaic #Mosaic Monday
