“Don’t try to save the world if you cannot improve life around you locally” Agnes Binagwaho nature.com/articles/d4158…
I had the most joyous launch for #Unheard last night Wellcome Collection with family and friends. Feeling so grateful for my community. 💖

Clear and POWERFUL voices of Saleem Razack Lisa Richardson MD Suntosh Pillay on the occult, insidious, kaleidoscopic & ubiquitous epistemic violence in medical curriculum. Echoes Said Spivak and Amali Lokugamage Your must-read in #meded 2024 …epublications.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/me…
Thirusha Naidu🇿🇦🇨🇦 Saleem Razack Lisa Richardson MD Suntosh Pillay Amali Lokugamage Here's an opinion that will likely be unpopular: I feel like "violence" is the wrong term. For me, violence suggests physical force and physical harm. But maybe I'm thinking about this wrong? #MedEd
Thank you for this great question Anthony R Artino Jr. You have created the space to share the work of a major philospher Gayathri Spivak whose term (building on Derrida) "epistemic violence" this Saleem Razack et al bring to #Meded in this paper
Epistemic violence in knowledge systems produces violent curriculum esp in #meded Reproducing acceptable violence of feelings in medical practice which IS often brutally physically violent to Othered people like Lisa Richardson MD Saleem Razack Suntosh Pillay and..me
Of course!!! Read all about the inimitable Rochelle A. Burgess @thewrittenro.bsky.social. For there is certainly more to come.

Incredible news!! Zackie Achmat wins this amazing award. Truly well deserved for his life-saving work leading South African and Global Health Advocacy #SocialJustice Thank you Madhu Pai, MD, PhD and McGill University South African High Commission, Canada 🇿🇦❤️
Madhu Pai, MD, PhD Thirusha Naidu🇿🇦🇨🇦 Resonate with this. As a researcher in oncology, I've seen firsthand how funding biases can stifle innovation from the Global South. The notion that collaboration with North researchers is necessary to access grants only exacerbates existing power imbalances.
Madhu Pai, MD, PhD Thirusha Naidu🇿🇦🇨🇦 Epistemic disobedience should also lead us to value knowledge not written in English (as de facto lingua franca, even in decolonial scholarship). We, in the Global South, need to work in building bridges across languages, cultures, regions and continents.
