Well my husband and I both forgot to pack rain gear for our 9 day walk, so please pray for little or no rain on the South Downs Way beginning tomorrow-

Walking the Seven Sisters between Beachy Head and Alfriston, right on the Channel

Early in the walk from Pyecombe to Bramber, with many hills in between-

Definitely the tree of the day, on the walk from Amberley to the Blue Bell Inn in Cocking.

Seeing this sign on the walk from Amberley to Cocking reminded me of how much I loved playing Plants vs Zombies - it was a great way to use up an hour or two

The walk from Cocking to Buriton was definitely challenging, partly because I wasn’t watching the OS app as closely as I should have been. On the other hand, we navigated more than one restrictive byway successfully. On to Exton tomorrow!

Finished the South Downs Way at 4:45 pm and what a shock to be in a city again! We’re staying at The Old Vine tonight and then on to London tomorrow morning. Last photo on the walk.

The South Downs Way is so incredibly free of litter that when you do see some, it’s quite a sad shock South Downs National Park

Another spinster novel that’s terrific: Jane Urquhart’s newest - In Winter I Get Up at Night. And it’s a moving and marvelous read, with incandescent prose, set in Saskatchewan in the first half of the 20th century. You’ll never forget Emer.
