Have you encountered a #Corncrake this spring? If so, please report your sighting via this link and help @rspbscotland monitor bird populations in 2024, through the #CorncrakeCalling project. rspb.org.uk/helping-nature…

It’s always a real privilege to watch a #Corncrake that breaks cover and spends time in the open. The early cover growth this year has been fantastic, so he’s been well hidden most of the time. RSPB Scotland RSPB Corncrake Network BBC Springwatch

We’ve been getting the occasional and expected late May arrival of Spotted Flycatchers at Kinnabus in recent days, but none seeming to linger very long. A different story to this time last year when a pair looked set to breed. RSPB Scotland The Oa

After a day of shooting at Ardnahoe Distillery distillery yesterday, I bumped into this Glaucous Gull in a recently seeded field near Bridgend on my journey home. My only long lens to hand was my 70-200mm, so a bird in habitat shot it was. #IsleofIslay #Springwatch

Curlew nest hatched over the weekend. Must've been about 4 days into incubation when I found the nest. Really pleased with this, I've been hoping for as long as we've been here for proper breeding curlew! Now to hope for successful chick rearing 🤞

Some #Chough images from recent encounters here on the south of Islay, both on reserve and off. This acrobatic maritime corvid really gives Islay an extra level of wild character. RSPB Scotland BBC Springwatch The Machrie

Three Corncrakes have been heard singing on Bardsey Island this spring, marking the first time multiple singing males have held territory on the island since 1956: bit.ly/3yMQScl

Some eerily beautiful #NOCTILUCENT clouds I was enjoying over Islay last night, whilst out on a Corncrake survey. No Corncrakes on my route but I did manage to locate a singing female Water Rail, several Barn Owls, and more exciting, a vocal Long-eared Owl. #IsleofIslay

An important cause to protect some of the land around DurhamWildlifeTrust at Rainton Meadows, from potential development. A really important habitat that I had great times at, observing Willow Tit, Long-eared Owl, Little Owl, and more. durhamwt.com/rainton-meadow…

A visitor to the farm in the form of a young #Cuckoo yesterday, this freeloader was being fed by several Meadow Pipits. I look forward to July every year, to hopefully encounter one of these on the reserve. RSPB Scotland The Oa, #IsleofIslay RSPB

A nice record for Kinnabus, here on RSPB Scotland The Oa. The past couple of days we have had a Little Egret fishing on the loch and roosting in the tree right outside the farmhouse. I wonder if it’ll return for a third night this evening. Still an uncommon bird here on Islay.

Late summer wildflowers at RSPB Scotland The Oa this week. Field Gentian, Frog Orchids, Red Clover, Knapweeds, Harebell, Eyebrights, Self Heal, and Devils-bit-scabious; are just a few examples of some species still present or just beginning to bloom on the limestone slopes.

THE ROAR OF CORRYVRECKAN We headed up to #Corryvreckan yesterday and it was roaring full force 🌊 It was a spectacular experience to see up close and in the midst of it all! A little bit of rain only added to how dramatic it was 😁 VisitScotland #islay Isle of Islay 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

A breeding bird here on the reserve, Lesser Redpoll visit the the garden feeders intermittently and usually in small numbers. Despite this they’re very approachable, and when an individual like this appears you have to take a moment to appreciate it. RSPB Scotland The Oa

Life on the Edge A shag perched on the edge of RSPB The Oa, with front row seats to the climaxing power of the Atlantic as it makes landfall; crashing against the rocky shore and churning up white foaming sea water. A common seabird elevated by dramatic wilderness.

A nice 11 miler yesterday up #BeinnBheigier. Lived here for almost 4 years and finally hiked up there, it gave a fresh new perspective on the island from above. An otter with her cub and an immature Golden Eagle were the wildlife highlights. #IsleofIslay
