Crucial for universities to keep defending the right of students to protest responsibly, while also dealing clearly and robustly with cases of real violence and unambiguously murderous speech.

Without discipline, it's impossible to protect the rights of legitimate protesters.

Please could everyone just stop adopting the utterly confusing north American usage of 'liberal'?

It really isn't the opposite of 'liberal' to be in favour of free markets, is it?

Nor is there anything 'liberal' about uncritically accepting traditional egalitarian dogma.

'The wretched of the earth want science and the benefits of science. To deny them this is another kind of racism.'
Needs restating today more than ever. At Cambridge in the 1980s, Fox was still prominent on reading lists even though postmodernism and relativism were on the march.

Now the tide has turned in the UK, we won't keep on seeing people fired for airing gender-critical concerns in the workplace.

But we must keep defending free speech. Who knows what other kinds of censorious narrow-mindedness may prevail in the future.

Note the smug 'right side of history' rhetoric and the usual false claim that transgender people are being excluded from sport.

By lying about this, they're not only trying to sabotage women's sport, they're harming the interests of transgender people.

Re Megan Rapinoe, etc, letter against NCAA:
“All of the women who achieved their dreams & earned their money through women’s sport to then try to destroy that for all the women & girls behind them, give it all back if you don’t care about the category of women’s sport.”

Over 100 Nobel laureates have strongly encouraged cultivation of Golden Rice to reduce blindness and child mortality throughout Africa and Asia.

Greenpeace think they know better. Over many years, elitist anti-science activism has blighted millions of lives in poorer countries.

Anyone who values freedom of expression should defend it for everyone, not just those they agree with.

Everyone should also be aware that freedom can't flourish without peace and safety. So freedom lovers must be utterly intolerant of violent protesters.

More people in England are enjoying regular outdoor exercise. Good news. It's free, fun and good for us, and no-one needs to be bullied into it.

Another glorious morning in Edinburgh Meadows, though the temperature at 6.30 was just on zero.
I'm sure our cherry blossom has adapted to cope with this.

Harpa concert hall, Reykjavik, outside and in.

People in Iceland really do seem to love music, sculpture, and architecture.
