Nick Glynn In short: drug search powers are the perfect incubator for bad police practice
It encourages police to be lazy about intelligence gathering and careless regarding the fundamental rights of ordinary citizens
It also facilitates racist police practices
As part of my submission preparation to the #CADrugUse I spoke to Nick Glynn, who led the UK's College of Policing policy development on police stop and search powers
Nick pointed out to me that police love drug search powers, because drugs can come in tiny amounts & size
Instead of paying for police cruisers and overtime, opioid settlement funds should help those that the failed “War on Drugs” has harmed. Our grantees, including Drug Policy Alliance, VOCAL-NY, People's Action, Center for Popular Democracy💥, and Legal Action Center (LAC), have a roadmap for this:

Fully agree with Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs, we need decriminalisation now. Sure, there’ll be lots more work to do and a lot more services needed, but this would be a start.
